Meet Powerhouse All-Star Dance & Cheer

Powerhouse is our All-Star cheer and dance program built for athletes who want to train hard, perform big, and compete with heart. With high-energy teams, passionate coaches, and a commitment to growth, Powerhouse helps athletes level up—on the mat and in life.

Mission Statement

At Powerhouse, our mission is to build powerful athletes and even stronger humans through elite cheer and dance training. We are two programs with one foundation—connected like siblings, growing together, and celebrating each other’s wins. We believe in talent fueled by hard work, and in teaching athletes how to shine as part of a team. Whether they’re leaping, tumbling, stunting, or turning, every Powerhouse athlete learns that greatness comes from consistency, humility, and connection—not from being the star, but from being a piece of something bigger.

Jenny has been part of Above the Barre since the very beginning—and honestly, I don’t know what I’d do without her. Not only is she one of the most organized humans on the planet, she was also my dance teacher growing up! Having her on this journey with me from student to studio owner has been one of the greatest full-circle gifts of my life.

Jenny has been teaching dance for over 30 years, and it shows in the best way. Her choreography is clean, creative, and packed with purpose. She’s helped shape our competition program from the ground up, and she now leads Powerhouse Dance with the perfect mix of structure, sparkle, and straight-up hype. Her dancers know she’ll push them, believe in them, and always celebrate their wins—whether it's a national title or finally getting a trick they've been stuck on for weeks. Her superpower is her attention to the details... No matter how big or small.

When she’s not leading rehearsals, answering 15 emails at once, or sending out perfectly timed pep talks, Jenny loves scrapbooking, traveling, reading, or watching movies with her crew. She lives in Bettendorf with her husband Mike and their amazing kids, Emma and Aiden.

I started dancing at a young age and spent most of my childhood twirling through studios and dreaming big—either of becoming a ballerina in New York… or Cindy Crawford. (Spoiler alert: neither one panned out, and that’s totally OK!) Through dance, I earned state awards, competed as a state soloist, and was honored to perform with both the All-Iowa Honor Drill and Dance Team and the All-American Dance Team at the Capital One Bowl halftime show.

Cheerleading found me later—my senior year of high school—and it was love at first stunt. I joined the varsity teams for football, basketball, and competition cheer, earning four varsity letters and a whole new level of passion for team athletics.

Years later, cheer came back into my life in a big way when I was asked to help coach Powerhouse. I never pictured myself as a coach, but once I started, I realized it was exactly where I was meant to be. The relationships I’ve built with athletes and their families are lifelong—and I cherish each one. My greatest passion is helping athletes find their purpose on a team and realize they’re capable of more than they ever imagined. I spend an insane (but joyful) amount of time getting to know each kid as a human being, not just an athlete, because I believe that’s where real growth begins.

When I’m not coaching, I work full-time at Empowering Abilities, where I’ve spent over 17 years advocating for individuals with disabilities. I’ve held many roles—Supervisor, Executive Assistant, and now Director of People and Culture—and each one has deepened my belief that helping others is what I was put on this earth to do.

I live in Bettendorf with my amazing husband (my behind-the-scenes MVP) and our two beautiful kids, Easton and Emrie, who attend PV schools. Our life is busy, full, and often chaotic—but it’s rooted in love, purpose, and a whole lot of cheer.
